早期AC米兰全名被称为“Milan Cricket and Football SERIE A ”(米兰板球--足球协会),简称“AC Milan”。
(Milan Football Club)。

Italy has won the FIFA World Cup thrice in 1934, 1938 and 1982 and has one European championship (1968) to its credit. The Italian national football team is one of the most successful soccer playing nations. The Italy team is nicknamed Azzurri, as the traditional jersey colour of the national team is sky blue (Azzurro in Italian).
The Azzuri won their first world cup title in 1934 on their home grounds in Italy. In 1938, Italy won the title again and became the first team to successfully defend their crown. Italy won its third World Cup crown in Spain in 1982. This FIFA World Cup in Germany will be Italy's 16th appearance. It was in the inaugural championship of 1930 in Uruguay and the 1958 finals in Sweden that Italy did not take part in the finals. Italy lifted the World cup for the third time in 1982 in Spain. The credit of this victory goes to striker Paolo Rossi. In the knockout stages he scored a hat trick against Brazil that led his team to the semi-final. He scored two goals against Poland. Italy defeated West Germany 3-1 in the final. Rossi scored the sixth tournament goal and was awarded the Golden Shoe as top scorer.
Italy is known for producing world-renowned players such as Roberto Baggio, Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi, Gianni Rivera, Dino Zoff etc who are known till date as storehouses of talent. In the 2002 FIFA World Cup South Korea/Japan, Italy had to exit after Round of 16, as they were defeated by South Korea in the Second Round in the penalty shootouts. It was a big blow for the Azzurri.
In the Qualifying matches for Germany 2006, Italy played 10 matches out of which it won 7 matches and drew 2 matches. Italy lost to Slovenia 1-0. Still, Italy secured the top position in the group comprising of Norway, Slovenia and Scotland and qualified for the finals. Lippi introduced these players to the Azzuri team - Cristian Zaccardo, Andrea Barzagli, Daniele De Rossi, Luca Toni, Alberto Gilardino and Vincenzo Iaquinta. These players played a crucial role in securing a place for their team in Germany.
Under Marcello Lippi's guidance, Italian soccer fans are hopeful that their team will lift the crown for the fourth time.
